To all the haters

So, as many of you may already know, my place of employment did layoffs today.

I survived - if that's what you call it - actually, as far as I know, no reporters were laid off.

It wasn't a shock - I think we'd all (or at least most of us) had been expecting this for some time. And most of us won't be shocked if there's another round.

What is shocking to me, however, is the vitriolic nature of the comments people left.

You may not agree with the paper's so-called "political agenda" or its state salary database - but those people who were laid off were real people, with families, mortgages, career aspirations, whatever.

Show a little heart, people - would you e-mail your mother with those same nasty comment-typing fingers?

Sheesh.

I, frankly, don’t want to read every last bit of news information, or otherwise, online. I dread the day I have to...
I’m so glad you’re safe!

I'm glad you're safe too! How scary! However, I'm sad that both of us forgot that we were going to hang out sometime this week. Let's do it for real this time and make actual solid plans. -Melanie

PS I just now noticed your comment on the Pancake Circus post... I'm sloooow.

Consider, though, whether you want to be safe: after going 10 rounds at Agilent, I volunteered the first time they asked for volunteers. 'Surviving' isn't the same as 'thriving'.

Haters suck. XKCD has something to say on that here.

SacBee really did piss off a lot of people by publishing the state employee salary database.

People with families, mortgages, career aspirations, etc.

You're an idiot if you think the state worker salary database is the reason for or a justification of people losing their jobs. Those salaries are searchable, public information whether the Bee publishes them or not. And, publishing them is hardly a detriment to someone's family, mortgage or career aspirations.

Also, posting anonymous comments is cowardly so if you're not going to ID yourself then just shut up.

Glad you're safe, Rachel. The next time The Bee reports on station layoffs in Sac media, they will remember that these people, like you said, had mortgages, families, electric bills, etc.
